My Unintentional Strategy to Reach 100 Followers

As I woke up in the morning today, I quickly grasped my Realme 9 Pro Plus mobile phone to check out my Medium account.

YES!

YES!

YES!

I reached 102 Followers finally (I just want to record this moment so I can revisit and reflect back on it later in the future). Although I realized I will not be able to participate in the MPP to monetize my writing, it doesn’t matter.

I just want to write.

I just love to write.

I love the satisfaction when I complete an article and push the Publish button.

Yeahhh!!!

I have been an avid writer ever since I was a kid. And I can’t just stop.

I’m addicted to writing. Although I don’t consider myself a good writer (compared to other excellent writers out there), I continuously keep on improving and striving.

My Honest Strategy to Reach 100 Followers

I joined Medium in 2021. I wrote a few articles (not many) in 2021 and 2022. However, in 2023, I decided to write on Medium and record my official daily tasks at work on a daily basis.

I keep on writing and did some manual link-sharing with 4 or 5 friends. That’s all.

Moving forward to February 2023, I still write but the rate became slower because I spent more time reading various exotic interesting Medium articles.

Among the topic is the Follow-to-Follow technique to reach 100 Followers fast. I was tempted to create a similar post but somehow I did not do it.

I think it will yield the fast desired result, but I feel that by doing that, I am not establishing a strong foundation for my own readership, and loyal readers, that will hunger for my writings.

I sense the urge to organically grow my audience, my followers.

What I mainly did was read many of the Medium articles, gave a couple of claps, and LEFT MY HONEST SINCERE COMMENTS.

By doing that, I realized my followers slowly but surely grew. I started doing this last Monday (6th Feb 2023) and Friday morning (10th Feb 2023), I recorded my first 100th Followers.

Before 6th Feb 2023, my Followers were just a mere 18.

Along the way, I did Follow a few new unique writers that I felt worth following, for example, Max James, Wikan, and a few bunches of others.

I really love reading their enriching articles. Ironically they are at least 20 years younger than me!

My Way Forward

I believe there will be a mixed strategy now, compared to my early January methodology. This was a result of reading many Medium articles since last Monday.

I may or may not continue writing and publishing on a daily basis. I may focus on certain topics that could be of public interest.

Honestly, I’m not sure yet. It has not been decided. I’m not a full-time writer. I also have other platforms to write. I also have to write technical papers to be published in reputable journals (since I am in academia).

But what I can promise is that I will have at least 1–2 articles per week. That’s almost like a guarantee.

But You’re Not in MPP

That’s not an issue. I don’t mind. I am here to enjoy sharing what I write and also establishing myself as a writer. I believe the financial gain will be delayed gratification, a work in progress.

I do hope, deep from the bottom of my heart that Medium will consider my country, Malaysia, as an MPP member.

But for now, I will just keep on with my writing addiction.

If you do not know me yet, I’m a full-time academic, working in a public research university, a father of four, love watching movies, sports, traveling, and also fancy making money online.

What about you? I would love to know your opinion.

If you like this post, please give me a clap to make me happy :) If you want, you can give me up to 7 or 50 claps as well. Thanks.

P/S: Follow me on Medium and get my content delivered to your email.
