If I Am Not I Who I Am Now, What Will I Possibly Be?

Life is full of mysterious decision making that can set you into wonderous life destination.

Our life career and direction can have a significant change of projection. It all depends on what we plan and the opportunity we had at a particular moment. Just watch the Everything Everywhere All At Once movie and you will probably understand what I meant.

I am now an academician, working at a reputable public research university in Malaysia. I have decided on this path since I was a chemical engineering bachelor student.

However, honestly, I do have something else also in mind. I have other interests as well. If I were to pursue those interests, my life would not be like what I am having right now. I don’t know whether it would be better or worse or almost similar.

The reason I wrote this special post is to share the interests that I once had and there were possibilities of me venturing into that career path.

Those of you who know me may be probably shocked by the interests that I have once under consideration by me. Without further delay, let me reveal them.

  1. Sports Journalist — I envision myself being in various live sports events, particularly soccer in the UK and also badminton. I don’t mind covering other sports too as I love being healthy and active and connected to sports updates. I have a friend dwelling in Birmingham, UK, who is a professional photographer and he is always in soccer live matches capturing stunning gorgeous photo footage. Lucky him! He is not a sport journalist but he supplied stunning photos for sport news.
  2. Chef — Honestly, at the moment, I’m not a good cook. But I am convinced and I know that if I put in the correct effort, I can be a brilliant cook or chef. The real thing is that I don’t have time to experiment or develop this interest now due to my hectic schedule. But I’m so impressed with my other half’s cooking skills. She can know and reverse engineer any meal and recreate it. I believe that is the prime reason I just gave up cooking and just live it to her to do the cooking.
  3. Espionage—This might be funny and illogical for most of you, but there was this time, not when I was under 12 years old, but when I was in the university, that I envision myself as espionage. Whether it’s the influence of Jason Borne, James Bond, Liam Neeson (Taken) or related movies, or other special people that I know (I cannot reveal), who are in this career, somehow that affected me. But, fuhhhh… I’m glad that I am a normal human being in a grey society.
  4. Explosive expert — I did once consider enrolling into Cranfield University, UK, to pursue a Master's in Explosive Engineering. That happened during the final year Chemical Engineering bachelor's degree at Bradford University, UK. I took the trouble to search and learn how to create several type of bombs. At that time, I was thinking maybe I can work under the Defence Ministry of my country and contribute my expertise in the area of explosive engineering. Well, we know now that didn’t happen.
  5. Professional footballer—Unlike career #1 to #4 above, this one took place when I was a kid. I love playing football (soccer) since I was in Standard 1 — primary school. I think I can play good football because at my tender age of seven to eight years old, I was accepted to join the older boys of age 10 to 12 to play football at school. There was a selection to be a district player and I was so furious with my teacher who did not selected me (because I felt I have the talent). Instead my teacher selected two of my friends whom are worse than me at football. I was extremely disappointed. But, life goes on.

Well, what do you think of those interests? Weird? Shocking? Unexpectable?

What about you? Any career you wish to choose…? But you selected something else…?
